Emery Named Chairman of Savannah Philharmonic

Melissa Emery was elected Chairman of the Board of the Savannah Philharmonic Corporation at the Annual Meeting and Season Preview event Friday, August 27. She was previously Vice Chairman.

Ms. Emery has been on the board of the Philharmonic since the organization was formed in 2007. She was the first chairman of the Savannah Choral Society, and was on that board when Peter Shannon, Artistic Director, was hired in 2006. The Choral Society was the organization that founded the Philharmonic.

Melissa and her husband Jim moved to The Landings from Connecticut in 1995. They were partners in a marketing research and consulting business for 22 years. Ms. Emery retired in 2000, and has been serving as a volunteer in many organizations since then, including being one of the founders of Savannah Friends of Music and President of that group for four years. She was one of the founders of the Savannah Choral Society in 2003, when the Savannah Symphony closed. She served on the Alumni Association Board of Directors for the Krannert School at Purdue University for six years, and was named Alumna of the year in 2001.
