Jeana Melilli, Education and Outreach Coordinator
Jeana Melilli is the Education and Community Outreach Coordinator for the Savannah Philharmonic, and she has also been their Principal Flute since the beginning of the organization. A native of Stockbridge, Georgia, Jeana received her Bachelor’s in Flute Performance from The Catholic University of America and her Master’s in Flute Performance from Northwestern University. She is the piccolo/third flute for the Columbus (GA) Symphony Orchestra, the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, and the South Carolina Philharmonic, as well as an extra musician for the Atlanta Symphony, Atlanta Opera, Charleston Symphony, and other orchestras throughout the Southeast. An advocate for Historical Performance, Jeana is a founding member of the Savannah Baroque and the Vista Ensemble, playing Baroque flute in each.
During her decades long freelancing career, Jeana has enjoyed the varied approaches to music education and outreach each organization has taken, as well as her own passion for teaching in her private flute studio and as the former Artist Affiliate in flute at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta. The many education concerts she has played, from large, full orchestra presentations, to smaller chamber ensembles in schools, have been some of the most meaningful performances for her. She looks forward to growing the education and outreach programs the Savannah Philharmonic has established over the years.
