Continuing the popular initiative begun during the 2012/2013 season, the Philharmonic invites students from the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System and surrounding areas to student-oriented rehearsals that precede a selection of concerts. This popular program will be expanded by 2015 to increase the number of rehearsals available due to a higher demand from area schools.
To improve the quality of the students’ educational experience, the curriculum incorporated in the rehearsals is researched, developed and led by Philharmonic Orchestra musicians chosen based on their professional experience as educators in the fields of orchestral music and instrumentation. All supplemental education material produced for these education rehearsals are circulated to participating teachers prior to the rehearsal to familiarize students with the presented music.
Musicians provide students with background information on the composers and the music played at the upcoming concert, as well as, explain during the working rehearsal how a professional orchestra gets ready for a performance.
