Savannah, Ga. – The songs, arias and melodies of a Golden Age will resound at the Lucas Theatre for the Arts on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 7:30pm when the Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus will be joined onstage by Irish tenor, Anthony Kearns. Mr. Kearns, considered Ireland’s foremost tenor, is recognized around the globe for over a decade of extraordinary collaborative work with the PBS super-group, The Irish Tenors. Supporting Sponsor is O.C. Welch – Ford Lincoln. The Contributing Sponsors are Austin Hill Realty and Wells Fargo – The Private Bank.
“You probably know both Peter Shannon and I are from Ireland. But what you may not know is that all the music for the evening is arranged/orchestrated by Irish composers,” reveals Mr. Kearns. “It will be an evening to get a true flavor of Ireland with warm, rich and vibrant music – pretty much the closest thing to visiting Ireland.”
It is also the first concert of the 2014-2015 season for the Savannah Philharmonic Chorus who have been hard at work for this evening and the following three concerts – the perennial favorite, Holiday Pops this December and Haydn’s “The Creation” in January 2015.
“The Philharmonic Chorus is eagerly anticipating their 2014-2015 season debut with Anthony Kearns,” explains Monica Harper, newly appointed Chorusmaster. “We have been working to build upon a solid foundation of choral technique each week. The chorus members are rising to the challenge, and I have been encouraged and excited by the progress we have made in greater sound quality. The prevailing attitude amongst chorus members is to work hard and give one’s very best in every single minute and for every single note of rehearsal, and that is how progress happens – it also attracts some of the best choral talent in Savannah. I am looking forward personally to concertgoers enjoying some of the fruits of the chorus’s labors. The musical genius that Peter Shannon brings to the chorus combined with the technical prowess the singers are developing should make for a thrilling concert.”
Or in the words of Mr. Kearns, “..all the ingredients for a wonderful evening in Savannah!”
Tickets for Anthony Kearns, Irish Tenor range from $16 to $70. To purchase tickets, visit www.savannahphilharmonic.org or call the box office Monday-Friday 10am – 5pm at 912.525.5050.
